Through a public voting process in the local library, this design was selected from among several to become a landmark feature in the town of Beighton, near Sheffield.
The motif, profile cut from stainless steel represented the present and past buildings found in the town. In the design the present properties are arranged over a bridge over the beck (which gave the place its old name, Bectun). The older buildings, some of which no longer exist, are placed as if in the reflection of the water of the beck, forming a circle with the current properties.
The two names appear in the form of industrial nameplates on the polished granite block. To the rear, a large brass plaque was attached crediting the community groups involved, who helped carve the 44 flagstones around the base of the sculpture in consultation workshops.
