Staff in the foundation unit of the school have always been keen to allow the children to splash around and explore the qualities of water, and were keen for there to be a structured area to facilitate this in their outdoor provision. A ‘water wall’ was designed by children in Y2. They researched machinery and techniques for moving water from one place to the next, and set about designing a space that was fun for the foundation unit to use. Waterwheels, pipes, gutters and pumps were built into the wall, to encourage interaction, and show cause and effect. The wall is now an integral part of their early years outdoor play and learning.
