The Hide is a focal point of the nature trail than runs around the centre. The brief was to design a shelter that would act as a bird hide to view the nearby feeders and canal, and a tree house for children using the centre.
Year 11 boys from the local Comprehensive school were involved in the project as part of their alternative curriculum, a scheme to give them knowledge, skills and confidence prior to them beginning vocational college courses. A design was arrived at, and then built by the group involving supervised use of hand tools and power tools. Sustainable timber was used throughout, and reclaimed sheeting was used on the roof. The viewing holes for the bird hide are made from a recycled stainless steel cooker top.
