Working with children is a continuing strand to Lewis Morgan’s work. He has gone on to transfer the technical and material knowledge gained from over a decade of civic sculpture to educational settings. Each scheme is devised to cater for the age group involved and the curricular areas staff seek to develop.
From materials to building techniques, the children are given background knowledge of the project in hand so their preliminary design work is a fusion of their own creativity and a real technical awareness.
Elements of the final structures are then created either in school or in Lewis’ South Yorkshire work space. These are then brought to the school, and built with the full involvement of the children. Fixtures, fittings and making techniques are used allowing all age groups a fully hands on experience in building and regenerating their own school space.
All features are designed to withstand the rigours of everyday use, made from robust materials, reclaimed and sustainably sourced where possible. Health and safety standards are adhered to and work is subject to Rospa checks where appropriate.
