Selected to create a sculptural feature for a public garden in this North Yorkshire village, consultation was carried out with elders to ascertain aspects of the areas history deemed to be important. The garden in which the sculpture sits was designed as a place of reflection, and as a previous scheme had resulted in a sports field for local children, the quieter area was for the use of the older generation.
Now part of the ever- expanding commuter belts of Leeds and York, the feature also displays the village’s history to more recent residents.
The piece, carved from a 2 ton limestone block depict motifs referring to local pubs, churches, cricket teams and ice cream sellers. |
